Shardul Chauhan

Design engineer and product designer. I design the thing, then I build it — interface, motion, front end, deployment.

Summary

Trained in textile design at NIFT, then taught myself to code so I could prototype in a browser instead of handing work off. Over six months I took fifteen working prototypes from empty file to live URL — all public, all interactive.

The domain knowledge is the point. I know what a loom will refuse to weave, so I build tools that refuse it too.

Experience

Design Engineer

Khalpat Inc., Gurugram — independent studio Dec 2025 — present
  • Designed and shipped fifteen live web products in six months, covering research, interface design, front end, 3D and deployment.
  • Built khalpatinc.com as three navigable worlds rather than a project list. Next.js 15, React 19, React Three Fiber, custom GLSL, GSAP, Matter.js.
  • Published the studio design system alongside it as an operable twelve-section document with four reading layers.
  • Delivered brand identity and art direction for musician Akash Raturi as a client engagement — mark through release artwork, working to his brief, his feedback and his release dates.
  • Treat load weight as a design decision: cut one product from 87 KB to 24 KB of CSS, another from 447 KB to 337 KB gzipped.

Textile & Menswear Designer

Place The Dot — graduation project, NIFT
  • Designed print, surface technique and material direction across two menswear collections that reached production.

AI Evaluation Specialist

Alignerr and Mindrift — contract 2025 — present
  • Subject matter expert reviewing and correcting model output on design, front-end and reasoning tasks against written rubrics.
Selected work

Weave Compiler

Browser-based textile CAD
React 19, Vite, Three.js, GLSL — no backend
  • Compiles a pattern image into a manufacturing-ready weaving draft using boolean matrix algebra, and reverse-compiles a painted drawdown back into threading and lifting plans.
  • Exports WIF 1.1 and PDF tech packs, handles matrices from 2×2 to 512×512, ships under 400 KB gzipped with no server.

Loom OS

Fashion and textile design system for the browser
Five modules, static hosting, no API keys
  • The product thesis is the validation layer: a seam integrity checker, a mirror tile fixer, and a cover factor gate that refuses to generate a fabric past the jamming limit. The software says no, which is what a factory would do.

Blazon

Jacquard design study, eleven-section interactive case study
  • My response to a live brief from a Delhi fashion label: motifs, composition studies, jacquard weave structures and loom specifications across four production methods.
  • Published as a specification with point paper dimensions and thread counts, not a moodboard.

Vandal.exe

First-person graffiti engine
Vanilla JavaScript, Three.js, single HTML file, no build step
  • Real-time decal projection onto arbitrary geometry, procedural spray dispersion and drip simulation, pointer-lock movement.
